At dusk on Tuesday, in a single tree beside Schulz's canal in Kalinga
Park, the following birds were observed:
- scaly-breasted lorikeets - nesting - several family parties; - Indian mynas - nesting - ?one or ?two groups; - Australian/Sacred white ibis - roosting - at least three; - little black cormorant - roosting - one or more; - rainbow lorikeets - chasing around & through the tree; - noisy miners - chasing/harassing around & through the tree.Note that one of the scaly-breasted lorikeet nest-holes was in the same branch and within ten feet of one of the Indian myna nest-holes. All this was observed in only ten or so minutes, before the light failed. More prolonged observation might produce more species in this interesting 'skyscraper' community. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Judith Lukin-Amundsen S-E Qld ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Birding-Aus is now on the Web at www.birding-aus.org To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe birding-aus" (no quotes, no Subject line) to |
