Hi Birding-aussers, Alan Morris said;
"Juvenile Oriental Cuckoos can have pale to almost
no barring on a buff breast. A more detailed description of the "barring" would
be required before one could be certain that the bird was an Oriental
Cuckoo."
I have seen a few Oriental Cuckoos in OZ both
standard and hepatic. On the Ashmore Reef trip of 2001 in October, we observed a
few juvenile Orientals on Ashmore Reef, West Islet. I was amazed at how dark
these birds were - almost black - and with heavy barring on the breast! Mike C.
would you like to comment. Cheers - Paul W.
