re #2 "Do Tiger Snakes normally eat birds? Answer: YES" Well, and no. There is a lovely picture of a Tiger Snake
with a Short-tailed Shearwater chick in "The handbook of
Australian Sea-birds" saying "they often co-habit and
tolerate each other."

Well ... but ... etc.

Some Bass Strait island Tiger Snakes live entirely on the young of seabirds - mostly Short-tailed Shearwater chicks! ... because there isn't much else to eat in some of those places ... and they only eat for a small period each year when the chicks are available. They may or may not decimate the population of shearwater chicks - that I can't comment on :-)
