This afternoon I was doing a survey for the local landcare group with
with a family. a mother & 9 year old son participants in last term's
birdwatching for beginners course I gave at the Community House, plus 6
year old daughter/sister tagged along. While walking along the children
began chatting about "Mini Magpies".

It took me a while to realise they meant Mudlarks (aka Magpie Larks in
the books). I think the kid's name is the best I've heard yet for this
species!
