BIRDS AUSTRALIA
2003 VICTORIAN TWITCHATHON - 25/26 OCTOBER 2003
Hi All,
It?s only two weeks to go until the 2003 Victorian Twitchathon!!!
The Twitchathon is an annual fund-raising event conducted by Birds
Australia. Basically the Twitchathon involves hundreds of birdwatchers
madly rushing around the countryside (or bush) attempting to see (or
twitch) as many bird species as possible in a race against time and
each other.
Entering is easy! Simply contact me and I will provide you with an
entry kit comprising the registration forms, rules, sponsorship forms
and tick list. I can be contacted by phone on (03) 9489 3830 or by
email at You can also get information from the new
Birds Australia Victoria website ? the Babbler?s Nest at
www.babblernest.com - and follow the links.
We're particular interested in hearing from individuals (or groups of
people) who do not have a team but would like to form a new team or
link into an existing team - an excellent way to meet like-minded
birdo's!
There are three events in 2003 Victoria Twitchathon:
* The 24 Hour Race, starting at 3:00pm* on 25 October and finishing at
4:00pm on 26 October.
* The 8 Hour Race. The rules to this new event are the same as for the
24 hour event except that you can do a 8 hour (block) Twitchathon any
time between 3:00pm*, Saturday the 25th October 2003 to 4:00pm Sunday
26th October 2003.
* The NEW 8 Hour Open Race, held in any continuous 8-hour period on any
day one month prior to 4:00pm 26 October.
(* Please note: 3:00pm start due to the beginning of daylight savings -
which allows for a 24 hour period of racing).
To celebrate the finish of the race there will be a BBQ at 4:00pm on
Sunday 26 October at Birds Australia's Head Office in Hawthorn. Even if
you have not entered in the event, feel free to come along to the BBQ.
So... get involved and help raise money for bird conservation!
