During the course of some spotlighting this week an owl was seen by myself and two other experienced spotlighters in a Mallee roadside remnant near Birchip,Victoria. We all independently looked at it and thought thats not a Boobook. Had a good look at the bird and it seemed to fit all the features of a Barking Owl but one thing concerned me.It's eyes a though very bright definately had a greenish tinge.
Any thoughts?
Simon Starr.
PS. A detour up to Lake Tyrell near Sea Lake to look for Rufous Fieldwrens was successful with a couple perched high and singing. The flowering pigface there made a barren site quite exotic.
