Greetings all,

I had a very hot but enjoyable time at Mary River Park to the west of Kakadu on
the w/end. I did a 3 hr "safari" in a 4WD, a 1.5 hr river cruise, and some
walking
about the grounds of the park. I took neary 5 rolls of film and hope to have
some
nice pictures. The following is a brief account of birds I saw & was able to
ID or
have IDed for me.

On the grounds themselves:

Rainbow lorrikeet - in abundance
Little Corella - these guys have lots of personality (guess who is a parrot
fan!)
Pied Imperial Pidgeon
Pheasant coucal - I am spewing I didn't get to photograph this guy, he was in
the
bamboo & by the noise I first thought I had disturbed a goanna
Torresian crow
Shinning flycatcher - I should have some nice photos of one trying to remove the
wings of a dragonfly before eating him!!!
Longbilled black cockatoo (o/head in flock)
Glossy ibis
Brown honeyeater
Blue winged kookaburra
Forest kingfisher

On the safari at the nearyby billabongs/flood plains:

Cattle egret
Great egret
Longbilled black cockatoo
Whistling kite
Raja shellduck
Channel billed cuckoo
Masked lapwing
Barshouldered dove
Pelican
Spoonbill (sp?)
A cast of many more - I don't know

On the river cruise:
Pied comorant - who spent time underwater I swear not fishing but avoiding my
camera
Dollar bird
Whistling duck
Great billed heron - two walking the bank (separately)

I am really starting to enjoy my birding!!!! :)

Cheers all

Mick...
