Apologies for not posting this sooner.
I had to make a flying visit to New England last weekend, and managed a
couple of hours at Dangars Lagoon, Uralla (NSW) on the Saturday morning
(13/9/03). The water is still very low, but probably no worse than on
my last visit, c. 3 months previously. It usually laps under the hide
but is now 150 metres away. There were between 2000 and 3000 Pink-eared
Duck widely distributed over the lagoon, making a more accurate estimate
difficult. I also counted 8 Blue-billed Duck, and large numbers of
Shoveller, Hard-head etc. There were good numbers of Australasian and
Hoary-Headed Grebes but the Great Crested Grebes and the Musk Duck
usually there were apparently absent (it must be simply too shallow for
them now).
I'll be there again in a couple of weeks and will have another look.
