A morning walk behind Tom Hunter park at Faulconbridge, NSW produced
another migrant surprise for me this morning. A Black-Faced Monarch which I
normally don't see until a little later into Spring and only then in the
rainforest gullys further below the park. This one was high up on the dry
forest ridge and most likely passing through. Another interesting aspect of
the morning walk was the numbers of Golden Whistlers. We must have seen
seven or eight plus a single female Rufous Whistler all within a distance
of 100 metres. They were all feeding in trees along the edge of the ridge.
I wonder if they were congrugating to move on as the Rufous Whistlers move
in for the summer.
