Queensland Birding Trip Report
I have recently returned from a 4 month trip from Melbourne, up the east
coast of Queensland to Iron Range National Park. Returning via western
Queensland and the Strzelecki Track to Adelaide, then back to Melbourne via
Port Fairy.
On the trip I saw 450 species, including 21 new species and 26 new
subspecies for my life-list and also another 65 subspecies that I had seen
previously.
Highlights included Red Goshawk, Rufous Owl, Grass Owl, Marbled Frogmouth
(2ssp's), Ground Parrot, Blue-faced Finch, Golden-shouldered Parrot,
Chestnut-breasted Cuckoo, Spotted Whistling-Duck, Kalkadoon, Grey &
Thick-billed(myall ssp) Grasswrens etc.
I have prepared a report on the trip which contains a table of locations,
contacts and species for the key areas . This cannot be posted directly on
birding-aus but I am happy to email it to those who request a copy.
Regards
Frank Pierce
