I've been there already, circa 1984!
I had to look very hard at the Heron Island Silvereye to make sure it
WAS a Silvereye. It was far too big, seemed to make slightly different
noises, and was very noticeably green without much of the grey tones
seen on the 'normal' migratory birds on the mainland. Without cheating
by looking it up in Simpson & Day, I think it also had pale flanks, no
buff tones.
It was also present on Wilson Island.
In those days they came into the dining-room; they perched on top of
screens and waited until people vacated a table. They then zoomed down
to collect any spilt sugar or crumbs from the table-top.
We were instructed to keep the lids on sugarbasins and milk-jugs at all
times, except of course when actually in use...
