Glad to see a use for this little pest (the fish that is). There has
been a move by some to have this species referred to as the 'plague
minnow', which is quite fitting really.
Cheers

Subject: Sacred Kingfishers wont eat
Marion & Birding Ausers
Most of the last six years I have looked after exhausted Sacred
Kingfishers that have just made it across the Coral Sea to the Port
Moresby area. I have had to force feed them all except the one we held
the longest and that was when I learnt that they cannot resist live
American Top Minnows (Mosquito Fish, Gambusia affinis). After a day or
two of force feeding they will feed themselves from a petri dish or take
them from your hand.
They do suffer from shock and degeneration of their flight muscles and
that takes a lot of rebuilding.
Happy rehabing
Mike
