I put a posting on birding-aus a week or more ago mentioning cuckoos in the Capertee Valley and there appetite for hairy caterpillars. Well, the numbers are increasing. On one property I'm sure we saw the number of Fantailed Cuckoos and Shining Bronze-cuckoos increase dramatically over several days. Just about everywhere you looked there were Shining Br-cuckoos siting in wattles, on fences, in the grass, on the ground. Many with hairy caterpillars in bill. Obviously word is spreading that the tuckers good. How many birds? No idea but they certainly number in the dozens. Pallid and Horsfields also present but not in the same numbers.
