I like this thread, it touches on the very heart of what birding is all
about - the sheer joy of seeing birds.
Here are some more that haven't been mentioned. For outrageous brilliance,
the crimson on the rump of the Diamond and Beautiful Firetails. When seen
at very close quarters (or in the hand) it is unbelievable - far brighter
than the red on any other bird I have seen, though the Scarlet Honeyeater
comes close.
For delicate beauty, the pinks of the Major Mitchell Cockatoo.
For unexpected brightness, how about the white on the White-backed Swallow
(would make a good advertisement for a washing powder).
The iridescence of the Satin Flycatcher is pretty nice too.
Then there are the amazing combinations, like the red and green of the
Red-winged Parrot, or the black and gold of the Regent Honeyeater and the
Regent Bowerbird.
My favourite bird colour however, is the orange of the male Orange Chat.
Seen in bright sunlight, I think it's the most cheerful, warm and radiant
colour one could imagine. Fantastic!
