The Cotton P-G was seen seen by Ian McAllan, myself and a few others
in 1991 1992.
It was at and near the weir in Lane Cove NP and also nearby in
Stringybark Creek. The weir is at 33° 47.475´ S 151° 09.330´ E
in Sydney's northern suburbs.
From memory the previous record in NSW was in the Hawkesbury swamps
in 1973 in Sydney's north-western suburbs.
Andy
Graham,
At least one of the two sightings listed by Kurtis (not to shoot the
messenger; I know the claims aren't his) sounds highly questionable
to me. A Cotton Pygmy-Goose in Sydney would be an extreme rarity.
Has anyone followed this up?
Cheers, AS

Gidday all,
having had some dealings with the NPWS wildlife
atlas I suggest that all records on the database are used with
caution. While the two species listed below are quite reasonable,
many records are just silly. Errors range from data entry mistakes
through to ID mistakes (little or no vetting of data is carried out).
Cheers
