On Wednesday I was late joining the BOCA outing so
ended up doing my own thing after following the track that seemed to have the
most footprints, but obviously wasn't the route they had taken. However, I
thoroughly enjoying the serenading of so many birds along the Manna Gum
Track and was delighted to see two Fan-tailed Cuckoos. Certainly my first for
the season. There were White Naped, New Holland, White Eared and White Plumed
Honeyeaters noisily feeding. With many puddles on the track, each bend I turned
seemed to reveal yet another species bathing in the rainwater. My next
bonus on the return walk was a Bassian Thrush bathing vigorously, then a second
one dashed out to join in. I may have missed the company and extra eyes but I
certainly had a rewarding day.
