Great weather for ducks.

WARNING ... this e-mail may have nothing to do with birds!

Rain, rain, glorious rain!!!!

We folk in Dubbo (central west NSW) have had the first falls in double figures for over two months last night (a total of 27mm to 7AM this morning) ... and it's still raining!!!!

I'm aware that other areas might like to see the last of the rain - I guess it's all a matter of perspective.  

Out here the rain is certainly welcome.  While there is no run-off yet to replenish the dry creeks and get water into the parched Macquarie Marshes downstream it will freshen up the country and (hopefully) provide better pickings for breeding birds this spring.  The last two breeding seasons have been hard for the birds with insect numbers down and many plants not seeding etc.  This rain may even stimulate the Goonoo Malleefowl to get working on his mound!

Nothing like good rain in the middle of a drought to lift the spirits - and, we have a tree planting in the Capertee Valley this weekend!  Lovely soft soil rather than the concrete that we'd have been digging had this rain not come along!
