Hooray, at last over this last week we have had enough rain to cover the wetlands base of Edithvale Wetlands (30 km SE of Melbourne,  Melways 93 D8 ) and already the ducks have heard about it. Having been dry since last year, it's great to see bird life there again. There are already many chestnut teal, grey teal, a few coots, and some swans. The hide will be open each Sat and Sun now, from 1-5 pm, with some twilight openings when the crakes, rails, snipe reappear , and of course the odd rarity. There are also deeper wetlands on the northern side of the road, with several vantage points around it.
