Curlew lovers,

I am currently working on a project in the NSW Murray Catchment to increase the numbers of bush stone curlews successfully breeding in the wild.

As we all know they are an endangered species in NSW mainly because of fox predation on the eggs and the chicks.

This project will trial different predator proof fence designs around different sizes and qualities of habitat.

It will also trial non fencing methods such as increased fox baiting and shooting around breeding pairs all year round, but especially before the breeding season commences.

If there is anyone out there who is:

  • particularly knowledgeable about curlews and/or
  • is working in the fox control business and/or
  • has had experience with predator proof fencing

I am looking for a team outside the catchment to bounce ideas off.

Wont’ be too much work, a couple of emails per month at the most.

Looking forward to hearing from all closet curlew lovers.

Kind Regards

Leanne Wheaton
