Lake Gillawarna is a local council lake and park in
the South-west of Sydney that three years ago around 20 White Ibis
started nesting on one of it's islands. Last year that number increased
to 40 nest but on a recent check there is now over 130 nest. There are
now over 500 birds that visit the lake each day so the number of nest may well
increase. A mate of mine Darryll did a count yesterday and there was
69 birds nesting on the ground as they are now running out of trees. We are both
wondering if this increase is due to the culling and nest disturbance that was
conducted at the Sydney Botanic Gardens.
