Hi Birders,

Annabel Ashworth asked a question about the western limit of range of the Spectacled Monarch in NSW and whether it would be possible to see one 20 km E of Tamworth, which is located on the NSW North West Slopes. Morris, McGill & Holmes (1981), give the western limit as the eastern fall of the Great Diving Range, coming south along the Timbarra River near Gibraltar Range, Salisbury Water and then down to the southern limit being Barrington Tops/Mount Royal Range, ie there are no records for the North West Slopes, and basically no records actually on the Northern Tableands.

I have checked all the published records from 1960 onwards and there have been no reports further west however that is not to say that one was not seen near Tamworth. It is also worth noting that the Spectacled Monarch is generally a migrant to NE NSW arriving in September and departing in April, and winter records are very rare.
