Does anyone know of any records of Spectacled Monarchs in the New England North West of NSW?   I am 90% sure I saw one here (20kms east of Tamworth)last Thursday.   I was on my own, so have no one to corroborate the sighting, however I am pretty familiar with the bird, having seen it a number of times elsewhere.   I note that Morecombe has it coming inland towards our area.

My only reservation is that I was looking into the sun, so couldn't pick up the body colors clearly, however the black markings on the head were clearly visible and the general shape was right. It also had the right call.   It was in a group of bushes in a well wooded area, near a gully.   It perched just in front of me, and considering the light, I got a pretty good look before it flew away.

I also saw a pair of Scarlet Honeyeaters here for the first time that day, although I know they have been reported in our area before.   All in all it was a terific birdwalk that morning.   30 species including 8 honeyeaters and 4 thornbills!

Cheers Annabel
