Today I went for a short afternoon walk at Mt Canobolas SCA
(12 km south west of Orange). At the entrance to the Federal Falls track were
two Red Browed Treecreepers, a bird I'd heard was here but had never seen. A
White Throated Treecreeper was only a couple of trees away to give good
comparisons. It was a bit colder on the mountain as compared to the rest of
Orange so bird numbers were reduced. Still, along the walk I saw White Throated
Treecreeper, Grey Shrikethrush, Striated Thornbills, White Browed Scrubwrens and
a Spotted Pardalote. In the valley at Federal Falls itself was a Peregrine
Falcon.
We're still waiting for winter to really hit here in Orange,
if it does. The deciduous trees are beginning to produce buds and are all
prepared for Spring. If it does turn cold they're going to get a rude shock.
