While at Bongil Bongil National Park on 12th July my wife and I visited and walked the Bundagaree Rainforest Walk at the southern end of the park near Repton. On our return along the beach we watched what I took to be a territorial dispute between three Black Shouldered Kites. Two birds seemed to take turns to swoop on a third. Twice we watched the third bird roll over in flight and extend talons upwards to the diving bird. We saw no actual contact and eventually the third bird perched in a bush in the foredune a little further up the beach.

Incidentally there are Black Shouldered Kites all along the mid north coast. In comparison we only saw one Australian kestrel. I remember their abundance was once much greater than the Kites.
