Joe Forshaw's book "Australian Parrots" answers these questions. This species is not as noisy as other cockatoos. I would say they are closest to Gang-gang Cockatoos in types of calls they make and general disposition.

Subject: [BIRDING-AUS] Glossy Black Cockatoo info

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me does anyone know of or have any information on Glossy Black Cockatoos in Captivity? I wish to know how they look after these birds in captivity being that Glossies are specialist feeders. I have heard papers have been written on glossies by a man called John Courtney does anyone have copies of his paper? Also would anyone say Glossies are a loud species in the wild? As i heard someone state that Glossies are noisier than corellas, Galahs or Sulphur-crested Cockatoos and i have seen them in the wild before and would disagree with this. Well thanks for your time

Yours Sincerely

Mr Jade Welch
