Gooday Terry and others,
Terry asked and reported
"Feeding on the same road kill north of Bowen, there were two Brown Falcons,
a Black Kite and a Brahminy Kite. The Brahminy was on the bitumen feeding
with the other three. I do not have access to HANZAB and wonder if it is
usual for these sea-eagles to feed on road kills."
HANZAB Vol 2 pg 65 and 66 states "Carrion" as a food source with adult birds
feeding on Domestic Fowl, Cattle and sheep. End.
I have observed them in the past feeding on carrion especially along the
Abbot Point Road where there is a high incidence of road kill, mainly
wallabies and some kangaroos. Also during breeding records of this species I
have recorded the carcass of Cane Toads under the nest. The belly and soft
parts have been removed with the upperparts of the toad completely
untouched. A pair are currently preparing to nest at Abbot Point, they have
been showing a great deal of interest in the nest they used last year.
Pity that you didn't call into Bowen as Tony Bischoff found a Freckled Duck
on Mullers Lagoon. Present 31 May to 10 June 2003. More info on Bowen birds
