Margaret,

I have seen a Rufous Owl at the site I conduct my nocturnal tours twice this year (hardly a reliable bird). However I did flush it,on Monday, from a daytime roost very close to where it was first seen. I am sure it is the same bird as the colouration is a little unusual; the bars are thicker and less rufous than typical and the background colour is more pale grey than cream.

As there are still a few Flying Fox around there is some chance that you can find an owl chasing them in the forests around Yungaburra: Curtain Fig and Thomas Road. R Owls have been seen in the Tolga Scrub about a month ago

Have not heard if the pair which lived around Emerald Creek Falls are still there.

Regards,
Alan Gillanders
