I have just been on a two week trip to Malaysia centreing on Taman Negara
and Bukit Fraser.
I visited Malaysia in 1998, and saw approx 200 spp on that trip, on this
trip I added another 50 spp.
Biidng in Taman Negara was diffciult, and I didn;t see any Pittas, Trogons
or Pheasants, but I did see a number of wonderful birds inc 5 spp of
Hornbill, Black-and-Red Broadbill, Wallace's Hawk-eagle, Great Slaty
Woodpecker and a swag of Bubuls and Babblers.
Bukit Fraser was quite quiet, but we did see Red-headed Trogon, Long-tailed
Broadbill, and various other good birds such as White-hooded Babbler, Bat
Hawk, Ashy Bulbul and Black Laughing Thrush.
At a place called Paya Indra Wetlands nr KLIA, incredibly, I flushed a
Barred Buttonquail from long grass nr the car park. We didn't have time to
explore the place further, but it might be worth other birders having a
look.
Three messages on different topics connected with the trip follow.
