Hi folks,
I returned from New Zealand a few weeks ago from what was primarily a
fishing trip, but I did manage to spend some time birding in the Twizel/Mt
Cook area where I visited the Kaki (Black stilt) visitor hide and checked
out the breeding program for this rare species. Have a look at:
http://www.twizel.com/bird.htm
I also spotted a few other species in the area. These being:
White-faced Heron (self introduced from Oz)
Black Shag
Little Shag
Paradise Shelduck
Mallard
Austrasian Harrier
Canada Goose
Black Swan
Pied Stilt (Black-winged stilt, self introduced from Oz)
Banded dotterel
Spur winged plover (Masked lapwing, self introded from Oz)
Black fronted Tern
Southern black-backed gull.
There are some pics at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ozbirdpix/
Cheers,
