Just as a quick follow-on from my previous post about male bar-tailed godwits in breeding plumage, I have put a couple of pix of the breeding plumaged individual on ozbirdpix http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ozbirdpix/message/186.

Basically, the bird is smaller than most godwits and has an almost completely black bill, yet is still a bar-tailed godwit, and not the asiatic dowitcher I would have like to have seen. I believe that the key is the shape of the bill, and feeding behaviour [if the birds aren't loafing].

Regards, Laurie.
