G'day all
just retiring for the night at about 11 pm on Monday 24 March, when I heard
a Boobook Owl calling from somewhere near my house on Bobbin Head Road
Turramurra. This is the first one I've heard in the nearly 5 years in this
area.
The bird called for about 10 minutes - I was just thinking of getting out of
bed and going to see if I could locate it (tricky - flashing torches around
in a residential area at 11pm probably not the best way to keep neighbours
happy!) when it stopped. I haven't heard it since then.
Pizzey notes breeding is August to December, so a bit early for territory
setting - perhaps a young bird looking for a patch of its own. I hope it
does - it can eat the bush rats that periodically visit my roof space!
Cheers
Tom Wilson
