Sightings

23 March

Swift Parrots were seen making use of the newly proclaimed Greater Bendigo National Park (15 kms south of Bendigo) along with with Musk and Little Lorikeets and Black-chinned, Fuscous and Yellow-tufted Honeyeaters, thanks Chris Tzaros.

 

21 March

A Swift Parrot was seen near the intersection of Park St (near Brunswick Rd) and Royal Parade in Parkville/Brunswick, thanks Tim Dolby

 

20 March

At least 1 Swift Parrot was heard along Heidelberg Road, between Yarra Bend Road and the Merri Creek - Clifton Hill, thanks Lawrie Conole.

 

19 March

3 Fork-tailed Swifts were seen over Westgate Park, Fisherman's Bend, late yesterday. They were heading North and moving quite slowly against the gale, thanks Alan Flack.

A Peregrine Flacon was seen on a Flemington building, near Moonee Ponds Creek, thanks Alan Flack.

 

19 March

47 White-fronted Terns and a single Fork-tailed Swift were seen at Altona foreshore, near the start of the Esplanade extending from the Beach St. end, thanks Paul Rose.

 

16 March

Highlights of the monthly Port Fairy Pelagic this month include 7 Wandering and 1 Buller's Albatross, an early Great Skua and Pomarine and Arctic Jaegers, thanks Mike Carter

 

16 March

Good views of a single clearly identifiable Lewin's Rail at the edge of the water close to some reeds at the Cranbourne Royal Botanic Gardens, Wylie's Creek Wetland, thanks Margaret and Richard Alcorn.

 

13 March

A Rufous Fantail has been seen in suburban Patterson Lakes, near the Freeway, thanks Jacqui Sheppard.

 

13 March

A Black Kite was seen at Smythesdale - a few km west of Ballarat on the Glenelg Highway, thanks Steve Clark

 

10 March

A White-bellied Sea-Eagle was seen at Werribee Sewage Farm, thanks Sue Taylor.

 

9 March

A Rufous Fantail was seen at Murrindindi, thanks Darren Baldyga.

 

9 March

4 White-fronted Honeyeaters (possibly more) seen in mallee at the junction of Old Calder Hwy. & Nowingi Tk. Hattah Kulkyne N.P., thanks Bellboca.

 

9 March

A pair of Brolgas were seen in a paddock approximately 10kms south of Kerang (on the Loddon Valley Hwy), thanks Greg Oakley.

 

9 March

8 Freckled Duck and a pair of Wood Sandpipers on Balbirooroo Wetlands, Balnarring Primary School, Civic Court, Balnarring, thanks Brian Thomas.

 

9 March

A flock of 23 Zebra Finch were seen at the intersection of Sandy Creek Rd. and Granite Rd. in front of the Ford Proving Ground gates, also at this site were 3 Diamond Firetail and Yellow-rumped Thornbills, both mixing with the Zebra Finch, thanks Paul Rose.

 

9 March

4 Hooded Plover and several Double-banded Plover at the mouth of the Powlett River, approx 8 km west of Wonthaggi, seen by all members attending an outing from the BOCA Rhyll Camp, thanks Nola Thorpe

 

9 March

A Crested Pigeon was seen at Rhyll, on the BOCA Rhyll Camp, thanks Barry McLean.

There are still up to 30 Freckled Ducks at Lake Lorne in Drysdale, thanks Tim Dolby
