G'day,
I was surprised to
find tonight (6pm+) that yellow-rumped thornbills were the predominant
species in a mixed-species feeding party in the grey mangroves at the
boardwalk at Cronulla Sharks club (southern shores of Botany
Bay).
I had previously
thought that yellow-rumped thornbills fed only from the grass
or in the base of a shrub, and were not to be found in
mangroves.
They were there
catching insects in the upper branches along with silvereye (lateralis race) and
with a white-plumed honeyeater, grey fantail and some yellow
thornbills. Welcome swallows and fairy martins were participating overhead
in the same feast.
Regards
Bruce
Roubin
