Birds Australia Southern NSW and ACT Group (Sydney) is holding an important
seminar:

HOOTERS AND HAWKS
What's happening with our birds-of-prey?
A birds-eye view of the status of Australian raptors.

WHY?

Like many of our birds, their numbers appear to be declining - but their
presence is essential to maintain a healthy and balanced environment.

They have been severely affected by such things as habitat loss, the
introduction of the rabbit calicivirus and the use of poisons to control
rodents. Being at the top of the food web, they indicate the
sustainability of our use of the land and, as "umbrella" species,
conserving them will help many others.

This seminar will look at the Big Picture as well as the needs and habits
of some specific species. It will conclude with an open discussion of
their conservation and how we can all help.

Speakers: Stephen Debus, Carl Gosper, Dr Rod Kavanagh, Paul McDonald and
Natasha Schedvin, with Birds Australia President, Prof Henry Nix, leading
the conservation discussion.

WHEN?

Saturday 12th April, 2003 - commencing at 1.30 pm
