Short Journey along the Great Ocean Rd

Today, I had a terrific trip along the Great Ocean
Rd adding a few ticks to my list. 

The first sighting of interest occurred while heading
out of Geelong towards Anglesea. Two Wedgetailed Eagles were seen
circling over the Blue Circle Cement Works.  Continuing on,  we
thought we'd stop off at Pt Roadknight to try our luck with spotting the
local hooded plovers.  We parked the car and headed along the path
to the backbeach. After a short walk along the beach, sure enough, two
Hooded plovers with chick were seen on the fence line along the
dunes. Tick! One of the Hooded Plovers was banded with a red band on its
left leg, and a red and blue band on its right leg. Sadly, the two bands
on the right leg had fallen below the knee and were causing it to stumble
and trip over the bands around its ankles. A cluster of baby Singing
Honeyeaters were also seen at Pt Roadknight.

Next stop was Moggs Creek. On the way down to the picnic
area we meet a local, who mentioned that he has many Rufous Bristlebirds
running around near the watertank in his neighbours front yard.  He
invited us back to his place, where we did indeed see the fleeting dash
of a Rufous Bristlebird into the scrub. Another Tick!   Also
around the house were many King Parrots, that where attracted by
the seed supplied by the locals in the area. Again, another new bird for
me!   The final destination was Moggs Creek Picnic Area, the highlight
there being a Golden Whistler.
