Hi All,
Whilst on our recent Tasmanian trip I was fortunate to see a male
Orange-bellied Parrot at Melaleuca, where a breeding program for this
species is underway and took some shots, one of which can be seen at:

A couple of days earlier whilst birding in coastal heathland at Strahan
I also digiscoped some small parrots which I thought (at the time) were
Blue-winged Parrot, although now the question has been asked "Why aren't
they Orange-bellied Parrots? The male definitely showed an orange
abdomen but I was told that this could apply to either species, also at
the time I would have said that these birds were about 20cms long but
this is just a guess. One of the volunteers at Melaleuca also told me
that it should also be possible to see OBP at Strahan, but didn't
elaborate much on this.
Pics of these 2 birds can be seen on:

I'm sure there are birders from the southern states who are far more
familiar with these species than I, so I would welcome any feedback as
to their identity,
I look forward to your comments,
Tom Tarrant
