We have a similar large cattle trough (no cattle now) which is about 5ft diameter. We placed a large old tree root, knobbly, which floats and wired it securely to the side of the trough through holes already supplied. This provides safe access down rough 'paths' into the water, with shallow puddles forming within the root due to its knobbly nature. It is proving suitable for small and large birds including Willie Wagtail, Restless Flycatcher, Magpie-Lark, Eastern and Crimson Rosellas, Little Wattlebirds, Magpies and Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos. Ours has a concealed float but maybe the item used could be wired in a position to save the float from possible destruction from the errant animal. Good luck Barbara Jones Birding-Aus is on the Web at www.shc.melb.catholic.edu.au/home/birding/index.html To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe birding-aus" (no quotes, no Subject line) to |
