Does anyone know someone at CSIRO Wildlife who would be interested in news of one of their ringed Albatrosses?

Whilst on a short holiday, my wife and I found a dead Albatross on Pea Soup Beach in Port Fairy (VIC) this morning (Jan 27th). We spoke to a local, who said it wasn't there yesterday.

The bird had a metal CSIRO ring on its left leg, serial number 280-07392. Although we don't know which species it was (obviously the serial number will reveal this) we did note that it had a yellow bill and wingspan of approx 2m. No obvious signs of the cause of death, and no injuries from fishing lines etc.

Regards,

Martin and Karen Symes
Melbourne
