Dear Bird Lovers, Mark Kleine asked about the fire threat to Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park. If you go the DSE website [http://www.nre.vic.gov.au] and click 'Fire Emergency Information', then 'Current Fire Situation', then 'Maps of fires in the Alpine area and East Gippsland -January 2003', and finally 'Detailed Fire overview 23rd January.pdf' you will get a map of the situation "as at 06:00 23 January 2003". I think that the fire closest to Chiltern (called the 'Eldorado' fire on the map) is no longer spreading quickly, but I don't really know what is happening, so don't quote me. Hope you are all well and happy, Paul Peake.
