I watched most of the doco "Animals
Behaving Badly" last night on the ABC. Birds had a good showing on the
program with the cheeky Kea in New Zealand showing its car stripping talents;
ravens in Alaska who use the snowmobiles as meals on skids and raid
them for food while they are unattended; magpies in Brisbane and their airforce
like dive bombing techniques and the Canadian geese that do 'their stuff' all
over golf courses and create a novel obstacle course for the golfers.
A lady has trained special border collies to chase them off after
scarecrows (scare-swans really, as apparently they don't get on) and model
motorboats chasing them across the ponds didn't deter them.
My favourite was the story on the sea lions of San
Francisco on Pier 39. After considering suggestions to clear them off the
up-market moorings, some that included putting broken glass and nails along
the moorings and even employing the services of a mechanical life-like Great
White Shark from the Cousteau Society to patrol the bay, they decided to
just leave them to see what happened. They now have the
areas best selling tourist attraction and everyone is happy.
Cheers,
Karen.
