Folks,

Thank you all very much for your replies - what a great information-sharing
forum birding-aus is! Dad and I got to Moonstone Walk at 7 am and stayed
till just after 8:30, but sadly the Little Bitterns didn't want to play, for
us or for any of the other dozen or so birdos who turned up while we were
there. However, we still recorded about 40 species, including views of
Baillon's Crake (from within about 10 metres), Blue-billed Duck, Great
Egret, both Australasian and Hoary-headed Grebes and a Horsfield's
Bronze-Cuckoo. Lots of ducks - Pacific Black, Wood, Hardhead and both Teal,
and interesting that they were very approachable, as if well habituated to
people (there are houses just across the narrow street from the wetlands)
but showed no signs of wishing or expecting to be fed. A great suburban
birding spot, even if the main target decided to be a no-show.

Thanks again for your helpful advice, especially at such short notice. If
anyone saw Little Bitterns at 8:45, I don't want to know!!

Regards,

    Jack
