I observed some interesting behaviour with an Eastern Bristlebird seen
at Barren Grounds on Saturday last (Jan 11) ; a grey fantail was trying
to drink/bathe in a puddle on the track near the lodge, each time it
came in the bristlebird would run out and chase it away. Has this sort
of thing been observed before?
We had excellent views from close range of the bristlebird feeding in
the low vegetation beside the track, and scuttling back and forth across
it. This one was in the taller scrub near the lodge rather than the low
heath further out. A large amount on the low heath had been slashed
recently in a wide band alongside the track . Presumably for fire
control?
Also observed a large flock of yellow tailed black cockatoos in distant
trees out on the heath.
regards,
Chris Ross
