Oh woe me! I made a mistake about the Spotted Crakes -
they were Baillons. Thanks to those people who sent me comments, I went
out to Sherwood again this morning armed with "book in hand" to check if I had
made a mistake about the ID. After a search and a wait for the bird to
turn around so that I could see under the tail, I realised that it was a
Baillons Crake and not a Spotted Crake. The bill seemed to be a lot greener
than I thought it should be for a Bailllons but of course it is smaller
too. Sorry about the mistake. No sign of the Bittern.
Is it normal to see Chestnut-breasted and Nutmeg Mannikins on
those islands as I saw them on Wednesday as well.
Does anyone know who is studying the Dusky Moorhens with the
twirly things on their wings. I'm curious.
