Pleased to report Maria and I successful in sighting Laughing Gull on Bribie Is this afternoon.Headed down to Bribie after the 3 hour marathon of Lord of the Rings at Maroochydore cinema. Found the gull quickly with Silver Gulls on the sand spit to the SE of Buckley's Hole around 3pm.Whoppee!!! First new bird for 2003, and a follow-on to Kelp Gull at Woody Point last year. Got great scoped views between showers, saw gull take off and fly low over Buckley's . Went to celebrate with coffee at cafe beside Bongaree jetty, rewarded with two further sightings as the LG patrolled the shore south , back towards Buckley's. Spectacular black head, dark red ,almost black, bill, white trailing edge against slately-grey upperwing. A must-see bird! Russ Lamb,Maleny, SEQ |
