Hi all
The pond in Minnippi Parklands has been covered by a noxious (?) green
weed for the past 2-3 months. The water level has been low and the weed
slowly grew across the complete surface. There have been almost no water
birds present as a result.
Last weekend I visited again, for the first time in a few weeks, and
discovered that the Brisbane City Council are 'treating the weed,
salvinia molesta, in accordance with council guidelines' The weed
certainly appears to have 'died' - it's gone brown, but I wonder what
happens now? If it sinks it will, no doubt, pollute the lake, left on the
surface to rot it will do the same - the lake is completely landlocked -
there is no (obvious) run off or run in. It will be interesting to see
what the council do now.
