Hi Jade and others,

In earlier days I kept parrots. When I visited other aviaries sometimes I saw birds with few yellow feathers on their body (these feathers could be anywhere). The reason for these loose yellow feathers is often that the bird had or has an illness on its liver. When the yellow feathers are replacing, say all green parts of, for example Scarlet-chested Parrot, we have a mutant. In parrot-keeping this is normal these days and it's an aim to select these mutants out and to keep the color in further breeds. People often pay a lot of money for new colors in parakeets. It's even possible to breed new colors. A friend of mine had yellow Lineolated Parakeets and also blue-ones, he crossed these two and after crossing the youngsters herefrom again he was the first to breed a albino (cream-ino) of this species!
Well we are a bit off track...my guess for the few yellow feathers is indeed due to liver illness...
If there are any comments, please send them through...

Keep on birding
