Almost Xmas Eve Needletails

During the period preceding twilight on the 23rd of December, I was out walking
the cat at my parent's place at Flaxton on the Blackall Range [Sunshine Coast
hinterland] when I noticed some needletails in amongst the circle of birds
hawking above my head. There was no wind whatsoever for the needletails to work
in, and so their wings were beating faster than the average lorikeet and they
were circling about less than 10 metres up like anchor shaped swallows. Some of
the swifts appeared to be somewhat smaller, so I guess there is an outside
chance they were vagrants like house swifts, but it was too dark to make out any
decisive details.

Regards, Laurie.
