Hi all, I hope you've had an enjoyable Christmas.
As I've written before we have a Collared Sparrowhawk nest in the backyard
which adjoins an area of mallee. We have been following their activities
with much pleasure, right from building the nest to the three chicks
performing acrobatic manoevres in trying out their wings.
It won't be long before they can fly - a week I'd say. But this morning one
of the chicks was found on the ground below the nest, which is about 10 m up
a mallee tree. A bit later it had climbed into a neighbouring native pine
and was sitting on one of the lower branches. I don't know if the parents
are feeding it (I presume not, but will find out today). There's no way the
mallee stem can be climbed to return the chick to the nest. I don't quite
know what to do about it. Any suggestions?
Cheers
