Hello All,
Greg Oakley and Lawrie Conole were discussing Blue-faced Honeyeaters in the
Kerang area. As Lawrie observed, they are common in the towns along the
Murray in Nth Victoria, and spreading to the smaller towns just inland from
the Murray too, such as Leitchville, Gunbower and Pyramid Hill. They are
far less frequently found outside of the towns.
Long time locals have told me they have only come into the area in the last
15 years or so. The gardens of the towns obviously are assisting their
spread. Regretably, Indian Mynas are also continuing to spead into the area.
There have been some interesting birds reported lately here in Nth Vic too.
Simon Starr yesterday saw a Wood Sandpiper at Hird Swamp. Less startling
were at least 8 Aussie Bitterns. There are plenty of Spotted Crakes and the
occasional Baillon's and one report of a Spotless too.
