Firstly a very big thankyou to Keith Brandwood for finding this first class
rarity and getting the news out quickly. Had a look at the bird at
4:45-5:15pm accessing thru the property gate on Argyle Reach Road. A great
bird that is a first winter male (size equal to a male Sharp-tailed Sand).
It has a few retained juvenile greater coverts to give away its age-the
coverts have a dark subterminal line and a bold white fringe.

As Buffies often are, it is quite tame and approachable if you take the time
to not overly disturb the other shorebirds it is associating with.

It was loafing in with about 20 Pacific Golden Plovers and several
Sharp-tails in the extensive mud margin east of the fence that goes across
the lagoon aproximately 1 km from the gate on the road.

Although this is private property, birders have been allowed access here for
over twenty years as long as common sense protocols are followed:

1) park well off the road 2) close the gate on the road behind you 3)
don't disturb the cows including getting between mum and calf.

This combined with polite behaviour will hopefully allow access to continue
for another twenty years.

Thanks again Keith-a great discovery.

Cheers

Dion
